8 More Scripture Memory Verses You Should Know

A couple of days ago, I recommended that you memorize the 5 verses of The Navigators “Beginning with Christ” scripture memory pack. That discussion can be found here.

The next 8 verses I recommend are also published by The Navigators. Called "Going On with Christ,” these 8 verses suggest a new way of approaching life based on having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

I memorized these 8 verses after I finished the “Beginning with Christ” verses.

The eight topics and verses of the “Going On with Christ” scripture memory pack are:

1. Living in Christ: John 15:5

”I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.”

I love the visual impact of this passage. I am part of something bigger than myself. There are lots of branches on the vine. I am one of them.

When I feel lonely, I remember that I am a branch on the vine. When I feel unsuccessful, I remember that the vine is responsible to produce the fruit. When I remember that I am part of something bigger than myself, I have hope.

I need to check to make sure I am plugged into the vine everyday.

2. Living by the Word of God: Acts 20:32

“Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace, which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.“

What a great reminder. If I am not growing, its probably because I am not spending enough time in the word of God's. The word of God builds me up. Its a positive influence on my life.

It also gives me an inheritance. I obey the commands I find in the Bible. I claim the promises I find in the Bible. The result is that I get an inheritance from God. My physical father can provide me a physical inheritance. My heavenly Father can provide me a spiritual inheritance. And this is how He has chosen to do it!

3. Living by the Spirit of God: Romans 8:14

”Because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God.”

I can be a son of God! I am a child of the Most High Creator of heaven and earth and every thing in the world.

And I can be led by the Spirit of the God of the Universe! Does it get any better than that?

4. Living by Faith: 2 Corinthians 5:7

“We live by faith, not by sight.”

I have a new life. I need to live my life in a new way. I need to live my life based on faith in the things that God tells me in the Bible. If God says it, I need to believe it is true, whether I can see the truth or not.

I can not see that God is going to use my life to help other people. But God says He will do it, so I need to believe it. I can not see that God is going to transform my life and make me like Jesus. But God promises to work in my life, so I need to believe it.

5. Living a Life of Love: 1 John 4:11

”Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”

What a profound concept. I should love others because God loved me. The perfect God loves the imperfect me. The least that the imperfect me can do, is love other imperfect folks.

6. Living in Christian Fellowship: 1 John 1:7

”But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.”

Jesus is the light of the world. When I hang out with other real Christians, the parts of my life that don't meet God's standards are exposed. I need to be in the presence of men and women who make the Lord Jesus Christ #1 in their lives. These people challenge me to live better for God.

7. Living as a Witness: 1 Peter 3:15

”But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give and answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect”

I still remember when I memorized this verse. I was struck by the need to be prepared. I need to be able to tell people about Jesus Christ. I need to be able to tell people how they could have the same hope that I have.

8. Living a Life of Generosity: 2 Corinthians 9:7

”Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

God expects me to give. He expects me to give of my money, of my time, of my skills and abilities and talents. And I should give cheerfully. I should be happy to give. After all, I wouldn't have anything to give if God didn't give it to me first.

He gives me everything. And He expects me to “share well with others.”
