8 Concepts about God You Should Memorize
When times get tough, it is important to remember the truth about who God is and what He does. Here are 8 concepts about God you should memorize. You should also memorize the corresponding scripture memory passages. The first three are concepts about what God does. The other five are concepts about who God is. God does what He does because of who He is. God Creates: Genesis 1:1 ”In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.”Everyone should memorize this verse of scripture at sometime. Its the first verse in the entire Bible. And its loaded with ideas when you meditate on it. For instance: 1. God existed before anything else. 2. God created everything 3. God is the Creator 4. God created things that I barely understand 5. I am here because God created
God Provides: Job 1:21 “and said: “Naked I came from my mother's womb, and naked I will depart. The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away; may the name of the LORD be praised.“ God created everything I could ever need. He created everything you could ever need. And He gives us what He knows we need to exist. He doesn't give me everything I want. And sometimes He takes things away. He gives and He takes away because He knows the best way to help me become like Jesus Christ. He knows what is best for me in order to fulfill the plan He has for my live. God Owns: Psalm 50:10-12 ”for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills. I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine. If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.”The reason God can provide whatever I need is because He owns everything. He made it. He owns it. And He can do whatever He wants with it. He gives us things to see how we will care for them. Will we share with others? Will we use them wisely? Will we take care of what He gives us? All these actions are important to God. These three concepts are important. God established a Sabbath for each one. Because God creates, He established a Sabbath of rest after six days (Exodus 20:11). He made this day holy because He was done creating the heavens, the earth, the sea and all that is in them. A Sabbath of rest each seventh day reminds me that God is the Creator. To remind us that God is the provider, He established a Sabbath year of rest for the land (Leviticus 25:4). Every seventh year is a Sabbath year. During that year there is to be no sowing or reaping. No planting, pruning or harvesting. The land gets to rest and God provides for the needs of His people. To remind us that God is the owner, He established a Year of Jubilee (Leviticus 25:11-13). After seven times seven years, every 50 years, there is to be a Year of Jubilee. At this time everyone is suppose to return to their property. If they sold their property to someone, it returns to the original owner every 50 years. God gave each family their inheritance when He brought them to the promised land. He wanted to make sure they owned it for all time. God owned the land. He gave it to each family. He can take it back when He wants. But only He can do it. God does each of these three things because of who He is. Here are five key concepts regarding who God is.
God is Love: 1 John 4:8 “Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.”1 Corinthians 13:13 tells me “And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.” The greatest characteristic is love and God is love! How cool is that? And because God is love, I need to love if I am going to know God personally. God is Sovereign: Daniel 2:21 ”He changes times and seasons; he sets up kings and deposes them. He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to the discerning.”God is in control. He knows everything that will ever happen. He gave me freewill to chose, but He knows how I will choose. He allows and causes things to happen to me. I think some of those things are good and some of them are bad. But God knows that in the long run they are best for His plan for me. They will bring me to the places He wants me to be in order to fulfill His purposes for my life. And thats a good thing! God is Good: Psalm 145:8,9 ”The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and rich in love. The LORD is good to all; he has compassion on all he has made.”It is fundamentally important that I believe that God is good. Most people today do not believe God is good. They think that because He allows “bad” things to happen, that He is not a good God. But if I start by believing that God is good, then I can find the good in everything that God does. God is Unchanging: Malachi 3:6 ”I the LORD do not change. So you, O descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed..”People change. Year after year. Month after month. Day after day and minute by minute. People change their minds. We learn and we become wiser. We grow older and our bodies deteriorate. Our opinions become refined. We change. Not God. He does not change. God is always good. He has always been good. He is good now. And He will always be good. He will always be sovereign. And we will always be love. He does not change. God is Eternal: Psalm 90:2 ”Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.”God has always been who He is. He has always been love. He has always been good. He has always been sovereign. He has always been unchanging. And He will always be that way. Since before time began. And after time has ended. Think about that!
