PUTTING ON THE ARMOR OF GOD
David's Mighty Men were warriors. If I am going to be a Mighty Man, I have to be a warrior for God. A spiritual warrior. I engage in spiritual warfare, not physical warfare. To do that I need weapons.
Paul told the Ephesians to “be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power” and to “put on the full armor of God.” Paul explains what the full armor of God is. But he doesn't explain exactly how to put it on. So here is the script I use when mentally putting on the full armor of God in Ephesians 6:10-20
BE STRONG IN THE LORD AND IN THE POWER OF HIS MIGHT
“I can't do this on my own. I need God's strength and power”
PUT ON THE FULL ARMOR OF GOD
“I need to step into the position God has given me as His warrior. I need to “armor up” so I am ready to fight the battles He brings my way.
STRUGGLE NOT AGAINST FLESH AND BLOOD
“It's not about people. It's about the spiritual forces of evil on earth and heaven.
STAND YOUR GROUND
“I need to stand my spiritual ground. The field God has given me stand in when everyone else retreats. Just like the mighty man in 2 Samuel 23 who stood in the field and fought while everyone else retreated.”
“Don't count to 10 – instead put on the armor of God before dealing with people.”
BELT OF TRUTH
“The truth of God is nearest and dearest to my body. It protects my ability to spiritually reproduce and fruitful – truth from God.”
BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS
“I am righteous only because of what Jesus Christ had done for me and who He is.”
FEET FITTED WITH READINESS OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE
“I am alert and continually look for opportunities to share the good news with people.”
SHIELD OF FAITH
“Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Hope is based on the promises of God. Remembering the promises of God, in general, and specifically for my life protects me from the attacks of flaming arrows by the spiritual forces of evil.”
HELMET OF SALVATION
“First, remember I am saved because of the work Jesus Christ did for me, not because of anything I did for myself.”
“Second, remember, my salvation is complete and forever. There is no doubt.” 1 John 5:11-13; John 5:24; 6:47
SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
“Is there any memorized verse that can be applied to this situation?”
