Why Practical-Discipleship.com?
Purpose
To push disciples to know the Lord Jesus Christ and make Him known to others.
Pusher Man
What's a pusher man?"A pusher," says Michael, "is someone who does everything he can to get you to do things you might not want to do but know that you should do. When and if the pusher pushes you into doing such things, you feel good about yourself and grateful to him. A pusher - however pushy - has your interests at heart. A bully thinks of nothing but his own."
You can read more about pushers HERE! I want to be a pusher, not a bully. Everybody needs a pusher man in their life. On this website, you'll find teaching, help, encouragement, and admonishment.
PUSH #1: Knowing God
They, who ever “they” are, say the greatest demand is for information on physical wellness (fitness, diet, grooming, beauty tips, etc.); financial security (debt reduction, investments, budgeting, purchase discounts, etc.); and educational growth (self-help, knowledge gain, academic degrees, etc.). These felt needs are as old as time. Benjamin Franklin popularized them with his saying, “Early to bed and early to rise makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.” Thousands of years before Franklin was born, the Prophet Jeremiah spoke these words from the LORD God, “'Let not the wise man boast of his wisdom, or the strong man boast of his strength or the rich man boast of his riches, but let him who boasts boast about this: that he understands and knows me, that I am the LORD, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on the earth, for in these I delight' declares the LORD.” (Jeremiah 9:23,24, NIV) Being healthy, wealthy and wise can be important. But when you die, it's gone. Your health is gone. Your wealth is gone. Your wisdom is gone. Paul said bodily exercise was of little profit compared to growing in godliness (1 Timothy 4:8). Understanding and knowing the LORD God of the universe and His human manifestation, the Lord Jesus Christ is vastly more important than developing washboard abs and amassing a seven figure financial portfolio. And to that end, I and some of my friends from the Mighty Man Tribe have embarked on this cyber adventure. In addition to www.Practical-Discipleship.com, my good friend, fellow laborer and founding member of the Mighty Man Tribe , Frank Nelson is developing the www.Presence-of-God.com web site. Frank wants to help you encounter the LORD God of the universe in a deeper and more personal way. As He desires to be known. Frank believes the better you understand and know God, the better you will be able to love Him with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength (the Great Commandment as found in Mark 12:30; Matthew 22:37,38; and Deuteronomy 6:4,5). At www.Practical-Discipleship.com you will find help knowing and understanding God as you can only when you act on His commands to “go and make disciples of all nations.” (The Great Commission, Matthew 28:18-20; Mark 16:15; Acts 1:8) Free Stuff You will find free, practical examples of what disciples of Jesus Christ do, why they do it, and most importantly how-to do it. The examples and applications shared here are not the only way to follow Jesus, but they are a way. A good place to start. We all start life by following others. We learn to walk, talk, relate, love, rest and live by observing those around us. We are great imitators. www.Practical-Discipleship.com provides examples for you to follow. Recommended Books and Products You will find recommendations. There's no need to re-invent the wheel. Many good books and products on following Jesus Christ are available. There are some great motivational books! They explain why we should follow Christ and what we should do. www.Practical-Discipleship.com attempts to extend the “why” and the “what” by adding the “how-to.” How-To: Know God 1. Look around see what you find here. Pick one thing. Just one thing and start doing it. Once you have tried that one thing, come back and find a second thing. Just one more thing. Start doing it. PUSH #2: Helping Others Know God Better
My second “push” is to get as many of you as I can to pass on as much of what you know and learn to as many people as you can. If you and I are the reliable people Paul is referring to in 2 Timothy 2:2, then we should always be looking “to teach others.” How-to: Help Others Know God 1. PRAY! “Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” Matthew 9:38 2. Tell others about us. Let your friends know we are here. 3. Share with your friends what God is teaching you. 4. Link to this website. You can link through your own website, blog, FaceBook account, MySpace account, twitter, etc. 5.
