"Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." Luke 6:46-49 (NIV)
The passage in Luke 6:46-49 shows a distinct difference between those who are practicing followers of the Lord Jesus Christ and those who are hearers only.
James reinforced this message in James 1:22-25. It starts, Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. (James 1:22, NIV)
Following the Lord Jesus Christ is not a spectator sport.
This website was designed to help followers of the Lord Jesus Christ put into practice His words. Only then will we be unshaken when the difficulties of life strike us.
Some things are best experienced from the stands. For me, that includes boxing, professional football, bull riding, extreme snowboarding, motorcycle racing. For you, it might be something else.
Christianity should NOT be one of those things for either of us!
No more spectator discipleship. Time for practical discipleship!
Jesus told us to go and make disciples. Being and making disciples is called discipleship. It can't be done by sitting, watching, or listening. It takes action!
To me, practical discipleship:
is NOT religion, it's a relationship with God
is NOT a list of rules to be followed without thinking, it's a set of principles to help me solve life's difficult problems.
is NOT about the American dream, it's about the abundant life.
is NOT about feelings, it's about choices.
is NOT about relative truth, it's about absolute truth.
is NOT about fun, convenient, safe, or easy, it's about fulfillment, impact, risk and investment.
is NOT temporary and earthly, it's eternal.
is NOT about health, wealth, and wisdom, it's about understanding and knowing the God of the Universe.
God has provided us a variety of helps to make us into the people He wants us to be. Some people call them spiritual disciplines. I call them spiritual maximizers. Maximizers so I can be all God wants me to be. I want to share practical ways to do these.
All hard work brings a profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty.
Proverbs 14:23
my paraphrase:
80% of learning is doing,
talk is very, very cheap and leads to spiritual poverty.
Just look around.
